ACID RAIN:
Sebec Lake was sampled by the Department of
Environmental Protection on September 1, 1982. Samples taken at that time for
water quality indicate low levels of nutrients and algae. The PH of the lake was
6.8 and the alkalinity was 7.0 mg/1, These values are well within the natural
range of PH and alkalinity values. Samples taken in 1950 by the Inland Fish and
Wildlife Department had a PH of 6.7 and Alkalinity of 8 mg/1. Since there has
been little or no change in PH and alkalinity for the past 30 years, Sebec Lake
as yet has not shown impact from acid rain. Presently Sebec Lake has good to
excellent water quality, and should continue to have for years to come. The
Sebec Lake Association hopes our members, both in and out of State will stand
behind any and all acid rain control legislation.
